About Me

2011

Although born in New Mexico, I grew up outside of Houston.  Determined to live someplace with fall colors, I pursued a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of North Carolina, graduating in December of 2000.  I completely fell in love with Chapel Hill and continued my graduate studies at UNC.  Dr. Chris Clemens and I became interested in the idea of non-radial oscillations in radio pulsars, and this became the subject of my dissertation.  I graduated in June 2007 with a PhD in physics.  I began my position as a postdoc at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in June 2008.  As a postdoc, I am continuing research with Dr. Clemens, as well as analyzing the drifting behavior in the binary pulsar system, PSR J0737-3039, with Dr. Maura McLaughlin at West Virginia University.  In addition, I am working with the Education Director at NRAO-GB, Sue Ann Heatherly, Dr. Maura McLaughlin, and Dr. Duncan Lorimer as the Program Director for the Pulsar Search CollaboratoryThis project involves working with high school students, helping them search though data to find new pulsars.
