Many studies were done on the properties of the lsb galaxies, i.e.:
Davies et.al. (1988b) examined the apparent inverse relation between luminosity and surface brightness for dwarf galaxies. They argued the correlation is the result of selection effects (small size looks like stars, large radius would get lost in the sky background).
Romanishin, et.al. (1982) looked at the HI content of lsb spirals. They concluded lsb spirals have a mass-to-light ratio 1.8 times that of high surface brightness spirals.
Bothun, et. al. (1991) - looked at approx. 340 lsb galaxies and found a deficit of lsb galaxies with nearby neighbors (< 0.5 Mpc).
de Block, van der Hulst, & Bothun (1994) - from a survey of 21 late-type lsb galaxies, they found the galaxies to have comparable size and similar to bluer colors than "normal" high surface brightness galaxies. comparable to (i.e. McGaugh & Bothun (1994), Sprayberry et. al. (1995), de Block, van der Hulst, & Bothun (1994)).
