NYSC Tour 2006

Approximately 120 students and staff (or as they say: staph):

June 29--1:30-5 PM

  1. We will begin at about 1:45 PM in the science center auditorium.  We will start with a talk that is given by Richard Prestage
  2. For the tour, the goal is to get them “behind the scenes” in manageable sized groups.  Groups will be about 25-30 in size. Summer students, RETs and our tour guides will act as tour guides, getting them from place to place, telling them about the telescopes they see along the route.  The “stops” we’ll make include Electronics Lab, GBT control Room, GBT(ground level but in close) and Exhibit Hall in the Science Center.   These stops include travel time! We will use their buses, and board for the GBT at the science center.
  3. For the E. Lab, we’ll split the group into 2 smaller groups-- and stop in one of two lab areas- so that there will be only 15 campers in each.
  4. Summer Students/RETs/ Tour guides:  If possible, I need 2 persons for each of the groups.  Your job is to act as tour guide – get your group from place to place and tell them about the site on route to the GBT. Tell them about yourself as well.  These kids go to college next year – many will major in science or engineering, so they will be interested in REU and stuff like that.
