This is paragraph 1 and I've defined it as such.  It has nothing to do with anything and it could go on for pages and pages.  How boring.  

This is paragraph two.  It too has nothing to do with anything and it could go on for pages and pages.

This is NOT a new paragraph.  Instead I issued two 'BREAKS' to make it appear as a new paragraph.  It's the same paragraph so if I apply a style change (e.g., text alignment) to anything within this sentence, there's a chance I'll mistakenly cause the above paragraph to change as well.  However, if you want to see a legitimate use of BREAK, consider the following:
The above carriage return is a BREAK and again keeps me in the same paragraph, but now I want this to be so.
