Software Control of Laser and Servo Systems

If the laser and servo systems must be shut down but the unit is not easily reached, then software commands may be used to shut down these systems. To shut down the laser, the power supplies can be disabled using the PS command. Similarly, the servo amplifiers can be shut off using the AXIS commands.

NOTE: Software commands cannot persist over a possible power loss and subsequent automatic startup, thus they are not intrinsically safe! Because of this, in cases where the front panel of the unit is accessible, the use of the Auto/Manual switch is preferred over the use of software commands.
