Memo to: GB Software Group From: F. Ghigo Date: 7 January 2003 Subject: Requests for next M&C Release 1. Provide pointing peak-up capability with scanning in azimuth and elevation. This requires support from iards/aips++ as well as GO procedures. 2. Provide procedures for peaking up the subreflector position, to wit: a. move through specified range of subreflector Y, while holding telescope RA/DEC position constant. b. A similar procedure is needed for the subreflector X coordinate, but here it is necessary to adjust the elevation as the X is changed. The procedure will have an X scale parameter for specifying the relation between X and elevation. c. And finally, a similar procedure for the Z-coordinate. Actually, for all 3 procedures, you should be able to specify the scale factor in both elevation and azimuth. These procedures also require support from iards, so that the subreflector offsets can automatically be updated. These procedures will make it possible to improve the focus model, and to check any improvements to focus models. The methods we have now are pretty cumbersome, and unable to give very accurate results at the higher frequencies. These procedures I regard as necessary for commissioning of K-band and higher frequency receivers, and well as being needed for PTCS. Accordingly, they should have very high priority. 3. It should be possible to do pointing peak-up on planets. The primary need is for the correct RA/DEC position of the mid-point of each scan to be stored in the GO fits file when observing planets, or using a user-defined ephemeris. 4. The OnOff and OffOn procedures should insure that the "off" scan follows the same track in (az,el) as the "on" scan. At present one can only approximate this by specifying an offset angle between the on and the off based on the scan duration and an estimate of the setup time. 5. The GO fits file should record the requested scan duration and all the procedure parameters for whatever procedure is being run.
