AIPS++ Installations in Green Bank

The recommended versions for general use are stable (for linux users) and release (for Solaris users).

stable
The stable installation is just a symbolic link which points to either stable1 or stable2.  All standard AIPS++ work for the GBT should use this installation, including the operation of GO, dish, and IARDS.
unavailable
stable1
The stable1 installation is one of two repositories for a stable build.   Stable builds are built in either stable1 or stable2, whichever is not in production use with the GBT.  The point of having dual stable installations is that we can test the build of a new stable release prior to putting that release into production.   Also, we can avoid GBT downtime associated with AIPS++ builds since the build only happens in a non-production installation.
unavailable
stable2
The stable2 installation is the companion to stable1.
unavailable
weekly
The weekly installation is built each Friday night.  It is more reliable than daily and can be utilized by users who need to incorporate recently fixed bugs into their work.
unavailable
daily
The daily installation is built each night in GB.  This is used to test new code. It is not intended for general use by users. AIPS++ programmers may change this code at any time, so please coordinate your usage of this installation with the AIPS++ manager.
unavailable
gbt
The gbt installation is a symbolic link which mimics the stable link.  It exists for historical reasons.
unavailable
mc
The mc installation is a recent stable build for use only by the GBT M&C group.  It exists to provide a set of glish libraries used in linking the M&C code.  Do not use this installation to run AIPS++ for any purpose.

release1.7
The release1.7 installation is the latest version of AIPS++ released on CD.  This is the only installation in GB available for Solaris use.  A Linux build is available here too, but linux users should use the "stable" version.

release
The release version is a symbolic link to the latest released version of AIPS++, as distributed on the CD, available in GB.
