GBT Publications - Search Help
The GBT Publications database contains abstracts of published papers that include astronomical observations made with the GBT or technical reviews of the GBT and its associated systems. In the majority of cases these abstracts have been obtained from ADS, in order to showcase the capabilities of the GBT to the astronomical community.
If you are aware of a paper that should be included in the database, please email gbtpubs@nrao.edu quoting either the ADS bibcode or the journal, year, volume and page number. If the paper is not listed on ADS, please provide full details (title, authors, affiliation, journal, volume, publication date, first page, last page, keywords, web link, pre-print link and abstract).
Search Form
The search form is very simple, and not intended as a replacement to the sophistication provided by the ADS Query Form. However, the GBT Publications user can locate GBT related abstracts quickly, and distinguish between peer reviewed journal papers, conference proceedings or pre-prints.
The default behavior is to retrieve all abstracts in the database and display 25 entries per page, starting with the most recent. Quick links are provided at the top of the page for individual years, all years (the default behavior), and pre-prints for the last two years. The title of each paper listed is normally a link to the paper's ADS abstract, which may provide links to web or PDF versions of the paper (conference proceedings usually do not provide this). Pre-prints will usually have an arXiv link after their title.
When using the search form, the logic is as follows:
Authors
Author names should be entered as Smith or Smith, J and are case insensitive.
Selecting AND will only return a result if all authors are found, selecting OR will return a result if any author is found.
Keywords
Keywords are always searched for in any journal keywords.
In addition, keywords can be searched for in a paper's title or abstract (which is the default).
Selecting AND will only return a result if all keywords are found in at least one of the three possible
keyword locations (journal keywords, title or abstract), selecting OR will return a result if any keyword is
found in at least one of the three possible keyword locations.
Publication year
If no year (yyyy) is entered, all years will be searched.
Entering just a start year will return results for that year only.
Entering just an end year will be interpreted as all years up to that year.
'Back-to-front' years will be reversed, i.e. 2004-1999 will be interpreted as 1999-2004.
Search logic
Entries for any of the three main search criteria (authors, keywords or publication year)
will only return results if such entries (including their options) produce a combined match (boolean AND).
User input is validated prior to searching the database, and any errors are flagged back to the user for correction.
Display results
Select whether to list each paper with or without it's abstract.
Select whether to list peer reviewed journal papers, conference proceedings, pre-prints, or any combination of these three categories.
Return papers
Enter the maximum number of results to display per page.
Select whether to sort results by first author's surname or descending publication date.
