	This document describes GBES offline program "tapeLog" for 
creating a data processing log for the VSOP Operations Group (VSOG).  
The  output file has the same syntax correlator log file.   These VSOG
log files are edited and merged by the VSOG and provided
to the correlators to determine the location of satellite data on
the wideband data tape.  The program implements the correlator 
log specification entitled "Alternative Log Input to the VLBA
Correlator for Space VLBI Observations" by Jonathan D. Romney,
dated 96 February 12 (reference [1]).

	One tape log will be produced per tape per tracking pass.  
The output file name will be based on the satellite rise time and the 
correllator number in the SRS file.

tapeLog
=======

The tape log program reads through the GBES logs and for one tape
drive, summarizes the tape motions and data recording activities.
The data rate, recorder head position, VLBA formatter mode and
tape footage are recorded in the file as a function of time.

Like all GBES offline programs, tapeLog also produces a short
help message if executed without arguments.  Ie:

tapeLog [<times>] [-drive <number>] [-s2|v1|v2] [-p <phaseFile>] [-o <outfile>] [<log files>]
where [-d <number>]   Tape Drive number processed (1, 2 or 3)
      [-s2]           Log for S2 drive
      [-v1|v2]        Output correlator number
      [-o <outfile>]  Correlator Log file name to be created
    [-p <phaseFile>]  Phase file for tracking pass
If the <phaseFile> given, tape Log created from it and times
for log extraction based on <phaseFile> times
      [<log files>]   are log files examined. (optional) 
Log Files in standard locations are examined if none specified
The output name will include the standard extension '.ktg'
The tape drive number will be included in the file name.
where <times> can be one or more of:
      -b[egin] <mjd> [<time>] first date and time to examine
      -e[nd]   <mjd> [<time>] last  date and time to examine
      -s[ingle] <mjd>         process a single day of files
      -t                      todays files (UTC date)
      -y                      yesterdays files (UTC date)
<times> must have the date (ie 96Oct31), but hours are optional
ie: -b 96Jun23                start at begining of day (0 hours)
ie: -e 96Jun23 13h30m15s      specify fixed end time

Output
======
	The tapeLog program produces a few messages upon opening
and checking the input files.  The first line printed is a report
of the input arguments to tapeLog.  The tapeLog program checks real-time 
station logs before execution, and prints the number of real-time log 
files used to produce the tape log.  The name of each station
log file is printed, when the file is opened.  Also the name of the
output file is printed.  

	The tape writing is organized by tape pass (there are 28
passes written when writting a VLBA compatable tape).  At the
beginning of each pass, a comment line is printed to the terminal.
The comment line consists of a date string and a pass number.
The date is in format YYDDDhhmmssxx, where YY is last two digits
of year number, DDD is day of year (range 0 to 366), hh is hour
number of day, mm is minute number of hour, ss is second number of
minute and xx is hundredths of a second.

	The usual final message of tape log indicating the number
of bytes data in the tapeLog file.

S2
==

	If an S2 tape is recorded, the -S2 argument causes an
S2 log file to be created.  This log file has extension ".ksg".

V1 or V2
========
	
	By default, the tape log is usually sent to correllator
1 in the SRS schedule (there is usually only one correllator to
recieve recording per pass).  However the design allows two
VLBA tapes to be recorded during a pass and have one tape
sent to correlator one (-V1) and the other to correlator two (-V2).
Note that the tape on drive 2 could be sent to correllator one
(in this case the tapeLog program arguments would be "-d 2 -v1").

Example
=======

	An example: VLBI experiment V047K was run on 97 Sept 15.  The
tape log for this pass was created by providing the
phase file name.  The log files written during the tracking
pass are printed as the files are opened.  Errors in
the link to the satelite are also printed.
