2009 is the International Year of Astronomy.

IYA is a global celebration of astronomy which commemorates the 400th anniversary of Galileo's use of a telescope to study the universe! Join us throughout the year for tours, star parties and fun family activities. The universe really is yours to discover!


Around the World in 80 Telescopes!

"Around the World in 80 Telescopes" is a unique live 24-hour webcast, following night and day around the globe to some of the most advanced observatories both on and off the planet. You can watch it here:

The Green Bank Telescope will webcast live on April 3 at 3:00 PM. Tune in!


High Tech Tours

November through May – 2nd Thursday of each month, 3:30 p.m.

June through October – 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, 3:30 p.m.

$3.00/person

Limited space: 15 participants/program
Participants will be guided through areas of NRAO normally off limits to visitors, like labs where sensitive receivers are designed and built, and the GBT Control Room.

Star Parties

Free of charge, everyone welcome!

NRAO volunteers bring out their optical telescopes for you to look through! Star Parties begin at dusk.

StarLab Planetarium Shows

Every Friday at 2:00 PM

$3.00/person

Limited space: 15 participants/program

Who cares if it's cloudy! Guests will gather inside a portable planetarium for a fascinating look at the sky above.
