Operation's Manual Editor's Guide

Introduction

The Operation's Manual can be considered a "living document". Especially in the early stages it underwent numerous and frequent changes. Even years after the GBT is "up and running" there will be a need to maintain the pages of the manual. These changes will be due to new developments and changes with the hardware, software, and procedures associated with the efficient operation of the telescope.

As these changes come about, it will be up to the Operators of the GBT to document them. If the changes are of a permanent nature they will need to be incorporated into this manual. This guide is written to provide a means of maintaining the manual, even through periods of rapid development, with as little effort on the editor's part as possible. The "Ops Manual Maintenance" section provides guidelines for the manual Editor and authors to follow. If these guidelines are adhered to, they will relieve much of the burden that would fall to the editor.

This manual is generated with the use of Microsoft's FrontPage used as a test editor for generating HTML. The final construction of the manual is performed with the use of RoboHELP. This maintenance guide assumes that the Editor is already familiar with RoboHELP. If not, it is necessary for the editor  to run through the tutorial contained in the program and even try a sample project before attempting to edit the Operation's Manual.
