Latest GBT Azimuth Restrictions

On Wed April 9, 2003 the primary GBT azimuth motion restrictions were lifted (the exception of the temperature restriction -see below). With the installation of the third new wear plate there is no further need to restrict the motion of the GBT within specified azimuth zones.

Restrictions

No azimuth motion will be allowed when the temperature drops to below zero degree Fahrenheit. Movement of the antenna will be resumed one hour after the temperature exceeds zero degrees.

Duration of Restrictions

The temperature restriction will remain in effect until it can be determined that movement of the antenna over the wear plates at these low temperatures will not accelerate the development of cracks in the wear plates.
