General Description

The unblocked aperture of the GBT should significantly improve the quality of the spectral baselines. Nevertheless, second order effects will exist and spectral baseline structure can arise in other parts of the system (e.g., reflections in the IF system). At the very best we hope to isolate the specific causes for the baseline structure and remove them. If we are unable to eliminate these features in the spectrum we may be able to calibrate them sufficiently to remove them in the data reduction process.
