A Use Case is a written description of an interaction between the system under discussion and its users to achieve a particular goal. Here are some examples

Why are we using them?

Our main goal in writing Use Cases is as a communication mechanism between the software group and other staff (staff scientists, engineers). They are particularly useful for discussing functional requirements.
