To facilitate set-up for a ZY, and to minimize release synchronization
problems, I have implemented a simple archive of the individual ZY
boot diskette images. This archive is currently located in the
GBT Metrology Group's Laser NT Domain, and is physically hosted on
the NT Server for that domain, `Freya.' The idea behind this archive
is simple:
- Control write access to the ZY boot disk images, which eases
revision control
- Allow easy read access to anyone needing to make a ZY boot
diskette.
Under this system, the master ZY ``boot diskette'' for any given
ZY is actually a file on the ZIY host that contains a binary image
of the boot diskette. If a diskette fails, is lost, or otherwise
needs to be replaced a new copy can be made from the archived
binary image of the diskette with reasonable assurance that the
new diskette contains the latest released set-up and will work
as desired. Individual diskettes cannot supersede the archived
image, therefore any changes desired must be made to the image
by the persons authorized to make this change, and new diskettes
made from the new image.
